A resume review is useful only when the final document remains accurate and becomes easier to evaluate. Do not accept every stronger verb or added metric automatically. Classify feedback before editing, then check the revised PDF against the facts and the application form.
Use a three-way decision log

Keep the log private and avoid including protected employer information. The purpose is to resolve editorial decisions, not to build a dossier of confidential evidence.
Work through one fictional comment
Original bullet: “Assisted with a valuation.” Reviewer comment: “Specify your contribution and the decision it supported.”
Ask yourself whether you selected peers, gathered data, calculated multiples, checked adjustments, or simply formatted the output. Suppose you gathered public filings and reconciled EBITDA adjustments, while a senior analyst selected the peers.
Revision: “Reconciled reported EBITDA to adjusted figures using public filings for the selected peer set, supporting a trading-comparables valuation.”
This addresses the comment without claiming ownership of peer selection or the final valuation. You can now prepare a credible follow-up about one adjustment you checked. If you did not make an adjustment judgment yourself, explain the review process accurately.
Verify in three passes
- Facts: employment dates, titles, graduation date, figures, transaction status and tools. Resolve uncertain statements before formatting.
- Positioning: does the first relevant bullet show a skill the target role actually asks for? Remove duplicated claims that crowd out evidence.
- Delivery: export the PDF, inspect page breaks, copy its text into a plain text document, and compare the application’s parsed fields with the PDF.
Plain text extraction is a useful formatting check, not a guarantee of how every applicant system scores a resume. Follow the required upload format in the actual application.
