Replace reporting tasks with a planning decision
FP&A resumes become more useful when they show how an analysis informed planning. Separate producing a report, diagnosing a variance and recommending an action; they are different contributions.
Turn a variance into a defensible bullet
Fictional monthly example: budget revenue is $1,000 and actual revenue is $1,030. A bridge attributes +$60 to volume and −$30 to realized price. You built the bridge and presented it to the finance manager; you did not set pricing.
Weak: “Increased revenue by 3%.” That takes credit for a business outcome you did not cause.
Better, if accurate: “Built a monthly revenue bridge separating volume and realized-price effects, helping the finance manager identify the source of a pricing shortfall despite revenue exceeding budget.” The bridge explains the contribution without claiming authority over the decision.

Check the difference between profit and cash
An FP&A interviewer may ask why favorable revenue did not improve cash. If you mention working capital, prepare the profit-versus-cash example. If the resume says “presented to leadership,” explain the decision and audience accurately using the financial-analysis presentation guide.
Choose feedback or reconstruction
Use the impact-without-numbers worksheet when reliable metrics are missing. If the facts are sound and you can edit, a review may be enough. If a promotion changed your role substantially, the promotion structure may solve the layout before you need a rewrite.
