THE METHOD

How this tool works

Enter your own research, attach claims to dated sources and review missing fields. The pitch format creates a short outline; the memo also includes operating-driver detail. Your work stays in this browser until you export it.

Connect a claim to an operating driver

A useful thesis names something observable: customer retention, volumes, pricing, margins or reinvestment. Record what you know and what you still need to test. Do not claim to differ from consensus unless you have a specific, dated market expectation to compare.

Each evidence entry asks for a source URL, date and page, period or definition. This creates a review trail. The completeness check only identifies missing information; it cannot establish that a source supports your claim.

Keep the valuation and downside visible

Use one valuation horizon and consistent units. Show how enterprise value becomes common equity after cash, debt and other claims, then divide by the appropriate diluted share count. Separate operating assumptions from the valuation multiple or discount rate.

A catalyst describes an event that could change expectations. A disconfirming observation describes what would make you revise your view. Neither a precise target price nor a well-formatted memo makes an investment conclusion reliable on its own.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Practice with Rowan Tools

In the fictional Rowan case, $210m next-year revenue at a 16% margin gives $33.6m EBITDA. An 8.0x multiple and $35m net debt imply $233.8m equity, or $11.69 across 20m shares. Your pitch must still explain the operating assumptions, the $6.395 downside scenario and the evidence needed to support the base case.

Assumptions and limits

  • The builder organizes user-entered content and does not generate company facts or fetch prices.
  • Every source and valuation assumption requires your review.
  • No probability, consensus view or investment recommendation is inferred from your entries.
  • Browser storage is device-specific; export a copy before clearing data or switching devices.

Common questions

Does this write a stock recommendation for me?

It organizes the research you supply into a pitch or memo. It does not choose a security, generate a target price or verify that your conclusion is justified.

What is the difference between the pitch and memo exports?

The pitch uses a shorter structure focused on the business, view, valuation, catalysts and risks. The memo also includes your operating-driver discussion. Both include your evidence log and outstanding research items.

Can I use it for an interview without real company research?

Use the fictional Rowan Tools case to practice. Label its facts as fictional and do not present the supplied scenarios as real market data or a personal research finding.
