“Submitted” confirms a stage in the application workflow; it does not by itself mean shortlisted, rejected or reviewed by a person. Check for a confirmation, the correct requisition and any outstanding tasks before trying to interpret the label.
Keep three kinds of evidence separate
| Evidence | What you can reasonably record | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Submission confirmation | The system acknowledged a submission | Interview selection |
| Assessment invitation | An assessment was requested | A guaranteed final-round interview |
| Portal status text | The displayed status at a particular time | A universal meaning across employers |
JPMorganChase’s application FAQ explains where candidates can view status and says a submission notification is sent. Goldman Sachs’s preparation page also directs applicants to their portal. Neither source makes another employer’s status labels equivalent.
Work through a missing-confirmation case
Fictional situation: you clicked submit, closed the tab and did not receive an email. Before submitting again, sign into the same account and check the specific requisition. Verify the email address, spam folder, unfinished drafts and any requested follow-up information.
If the portal shows a submitted application with an identifier, record it. If it shows only a draft, complete the required steps if the role remains open. If the evidence conflicts, contact the official support or recruiting route with the requisition, approximate submission time and a description of the problem. Do not send passwords or identity documents in an unsolicited email.
A status log that avoids guesswork
Use these columns: requisition, application date, confirmation reference, displayed status, open task, task deadline, last checked, next action. Write observable facts. “No change since September 25” is a fact; “recruiter dislikes my school” is speculation.
Set reminders around actual deadlines rather than repeatedly refreshing the portal. Continue preparing and evaluating other eligible roles while waiting. There is no universal number of days after which silence establishes rejection.
If you discover a factual error in a submitted application, check that employer’s correction policy. Editing a general profile may not update a previous submission. Do not withdraw and reapply without understanding the applicable application limits and consequences.
Use the correct cycle information
For Summer 2028, confirm graduation eligibility and the specific role before relying on any broad recruiting timeline. The 2028 recruiting desk collects the verified cycle material; the application tracker helps preserve your evidence. If a task has arrived, use the assessment invitation checklist. This status guide is evergreen and does not announce new 2028 policies.
