THE METHOD

How this tool works

Select interests → inspect the matching activities → compare up to three areas → record evidence and next actions → export the plan.

Explore work before choosing a title

The eight areas extend the career explorer: banking, investing, markets and quant, corporate finance, accounting, wealth management, risk and compliance, and fintech and operations. Each contains multiple occupations and teams.

Interest overlap changes the order, not your suitability. The same number of matches produces a tie, resolved by the existing field order. No weighting, personality diagnosis or hidden hiring model is used.

Separate evidence from a learning goal

For each selected path, record examples of work you actually did: the task, your action, an output and what you can explain. A blank evidence field means that evidence has not been recorded, not that you lack the skill.

If a requirement is unfamiliar, choose a small practice task or a question for someone in the field. Keep personal ownership clear; observing a team’s work does not establish that you performed it yourself.

Check the real gates

Location, qualifications, work authorization, recruiting timing and team-specific expectations may determine whether a role is currently accessible. Record those constraints and verify them in actual postings.

The sample tasks are editorial exercises using public or fictional inputs. They are not employer assessments, professional certifications or evidence of completed experience.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Compare corporate finance with risk

Someone who enjoys business analysis and careful investigation can compare corporate finance and risk. They might record a reconciled reporting project as evidence, identify forecasting as an open learning goal, then plan a variance-analysis exercise and a conversation with an FP&A analyst. The plan remains editable as they learn more.

Assumptions and limits

  • Interest matches are an editorial navigation aid, not a fit score.
  • Broad career areas do not capture every occupation or employer.
  • Verify qualifications, licensing and work-authorization requirements with the relevant official source.
  • The tool does not predict pay, admission, hiring outcomes or career satisfaction.

Common questions

How are the paths ordered?

Each area names two work interests. Areas with more of your selected interests appear first; ties retain the existing career-explorer order. You can compare any area regardless of its position.

Does the planner tell me which finance career I should choose?

No. It helps you inspect the work and plan what to verify. Experience, constraints, conversations and real job requirements matter beyond the selected interests.

Can I save my comparison and next steps?

Yes. The plan stays in this browser, and you can copy, download or print it. Export a copy before changing devices or clearing browser data.
